THE REPORTER | The Sabang District Attorney’s Office (Kejari) carried out the execution of the caning uqubat against four convicts who violated Islamic law in the city.
The caning execution which took place in the yard of the local Kejari Office on Friday (4/10/2024) began at around 09.00 WIB.
This caning punishment was carried out in accordance with Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law, which regulates sanctions for violators of the law in Aceh.
The four convicts who were executed with the caning had been found guilty of violating Islamic law by the Sabang City Sharia Court (MS).
The Head of the Sabang District Attorney’s Office (Kajari), Milono Raharjo SH MH, also witnessed the caning punishment against the violators of Islamic law.
“The implementation of this caning punishment is not only part of law enforcement. But it is also a warning to the public to obey Islamic law and stay away from violating the law,” said Milono in his remarks before the execution began.
The four convicts who underwent the caning sentence this time were given sanctions for violations regulated in Article 18 Jo Article 19 of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law.
They are Rahmad Dalimunthe SE, Diki Amanda StrT, Syahrial Tarmulo, and Ilmi Harisma.
The first three names were each sentenced to 12 lashes, but after the reduction of the detention period to 11 lashes.
While the last name was sentenced to eight lashes and after the reduction of the detention period, served seven lashes.
The implementation of this caning sentence is part of the Sabang City Government’s commitment to uphold Islamic law in accordance with the rules in force in Aceh.
The Kajari hopes that law enforcement through this caning sentence can provide a deterrent effect for violators and be a lesson for other people not to commit various acts that violate Islamic law.
This means that he asks all people of Sabang in particular and Aceh in general to stay away from acts that violate jinayat law.
“Hopefully, this will be a reminder for everyone not to violate Islamic law.
We enforce the law fairly and according to the rules and it is hoped that the community will increasingly understand the importance of obeying the law,” said Milono in his message.
In addition to government officials, a number of local residents also witnessed the implementation of this caning punishment.
They hope that this caning execution can maintain public order and morals in Sabang, and further strengthen the implementation of Islamic law in Aceh.
Aceh as the only province in Indonesia that implements Islamic law has long implemented caning as a form of sanction for violators of criminal law.
This punishment is considered an effective way to maintain public order and morals, especially in cases such as gambling, adultery, and alcohol, which are often the focus of Islamic law enforcement.
The implementation of this caning uqubat execution is also expected to continue to remind the people of Aceh, especially in Sabang City, to always live their lives according to religious rules and applicable laws.[AR]
