THE REPORTER | Thousands of South Aceh residents had to be evacuated by the South Aceh Regency BPBD team because their homes were flooded.

The Head of the South Aceh BPBD, H Zainal A SE MSi, said that thousands of residents had been evacuated. 5,285 residents were affected and 1,085 people had been placed in evacuation centers.

There are several evacuation points that have been placed by empowering public kitchens provided by the BPBD and the South Aceh Regency Social Service.

“We also ask people who are in safe places to contribute to meeting the needs of the public kitchen by supplying food and clothing,” said Zainal hopefully.

As of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the flood has caused major damage to property and paralyzed transportation. The water depth in several locations reached 1.5 meters, closing the Aceh-Medan national highway.

“As of now at 16.30 WIB, the water that has inundated the National Road, precisely in Ladang Rimba, has begun to recede slowly, but vehicle mobility can only be passed by certain vehicles. Meanwhile, minibuses such as Avanza and the like cannot pass through the road,” he said.

He also said that when the ambulance carrying the body from Banda Aceh to Subussalam had to be evacuated using a Rubber Boat provided by the South Aceh BPBD. The BPBD Team, TNI and Polri and the community came to help deliver the body to the waterline that inundated the road.

“Alhamdulillah, with the provision of the Rubber Boat, the body that was to be taken home to the funeral home in Subussalam went smoothly,” said Zainal.

The flood that hit South Aceh Regency still inundated the National Road, which connects West Aceh Regency and North Sumatra Province which is the access for suppliers of goods for the district/city markets on the west coast of Aceh.

Based on information from the goods transport driver, their trucks were not allowed to pass through the flooded road because the local people were afraid that their houses would collapse due to the waves of water generated by the passing trucks. Resulting in goods brought from Medan to West Aceh not being distributed and rotting.[AR]
