THE REPORTER | Bunga Matahari Intercultural School (BMIS) Aceh, once again celebrated ‘UN Day’, the birthday of the United Nations (UN) which was officially established on October 24, 1945.
The activity was held at the Bunga Matahari Intercultural School Aceh complex, in Gampong Geuceu Iniem, Banda Raya District, Banda Aceh City, Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Various activities were held to celebrate UN Day which is an annual routine agenda of BMIS, which is the first school to hold the celebration in Aceh.
In a series of celebrations, kindergarten and elementary school students held a parade of world country flags.
The celebration was also enlivened by an English-language drama performed by junior high and high school students.
In addition, art and cultural performances were also held by a number of countries from 6 continents by students who also wore the national clothes of UN member countries.
The celebration was even more lively with a cooking competition with students supported by teachers, with a menu of typical foods from various countries. The cooking results were then served in activity tents, and attracted visitors consisting of parents of students to buy and taste.
BMIS Principal, Victoria Gelbolingo said, the UN Day celebration aims to provide students with an understanding of the importance of religious values.
“The value of togetherness needs to be taught to children from an early age, that we live in a world with different races, cultures, languages and religions, but we must still respect each other. So this event carries a message of peace,” said the woman from the Philippines.
This celebration was well received by various parties, both the Regional Government and parents.
As expressed by Deddy, one of the parents of students, who considered this event very creative, entertaining and instilled a strong message to children to make differences a blessing.
“With activities like this, children learn about the diversity of ethnic groups in the world, then foster unity without regard to ethnic differences so that world peace is created,” he concluded.[]
