THE REPORTER | A total of 24 participants of the 2024 Aceh MPU Ulama Cadre Education (PKU) were provided with material related to determining the direction of the qibla.
The Falakiyah Expert of the Aceh Province Ministry of Religion, Dr. H. Al-Firdaus Putra, S.HI., MH explained the material related to determining the direction of the qibla to the PKU participants, which was held at the Aceh MPU Secretariat building, Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Al-Firdaus explained that by studying astronomy, we will actually know for sure whether the direction of the qibla when praying is right towards the Kaaba. The importance of determining the right direction of the qibla is one of the important things emphasized in Islam.
“Today’s focus is on Astronomy, Astronomy is Astronomy related to the worship of Muslims, for example, where to pray when praying. Fiqh states the direction to the Kaaba, so Astronomy determines where that direction is,” he explained.
On that occasion, the participants directly practiced the basic procedures for using a telescope to the PKU participants who were tengku-tengku sent by 23 regencies/cities throughout Aceh.
He hopes that these tengku can practice what they have gained during the short PKU period.
“God willing, after this, these tengku-tengku will at least be able to measure the qibla, at least they will be able to do rukyatul hilal,” he hoped.[AR]
