THE REPORTER | A flood disaster has again hit the East Aceh region. On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) reported that Simpang Jernih District in East Aceh Regency was affected by a major flood that occurred in the early hours of 03.00 WIB.
This flood was caused by the intensity of heavy rain that poured down on the area and overflowing water from Gayo Lues Regency.
Until this news was published, the water discharge in the affected area continued to increase, triggering concerns from residents that the flood would spread further.
This disaster forced 50 families (KK) in Gampong Pante Kera to leave their homes, with 45 of them having to evacuate to the Gampong Pante Kera Mosque. Although the flood had submerged residents’ settlements, BPBA ensured that there were no fatalities in this incident.
However, a major obstacle in efforts to deal with this flood is the difficulty of access to the affected location.
Rescue teams, volunteers and residents had to cross a large river in Simpang Jernih District to reach Gampong Pante Kera, slowing down the evacuation and aid process.[AR]
