THE REPORTER | Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian reminded the newly inaugurated members of the Aceh DPR 2024-2029 not to allocate regional budgets for their own personal interests.
The statement was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs through his remarks read by the Acting Governor of Aceh, Safrizal ZA in the plenary meeting of the Aceh DPR regarding the swearing-in of DPRA members for the 2024-2029 period, at the main DPRA building, in Banda Aceh, Monday (30/9/2024).
“The budget should refer to the commitment of each council member, placing fund allocations that are oriented towards the welfare of the community, and not for the welfare of individuals and groups,” said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as read by the Acting Governor of Aceh.
Tito said that each member of the Aceh DPR has a strong bond with the regional government as an extension of the political party. Because no matter how big the interests of the political party are, each council member must remain subordinate to the interests of the people.
“In carrying out its duties, the legislature will be supervised by law enforcement and supervisory institutions such as the KPK, BPK, BPKP and others,” he said.
The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that the Aceh DPR must truly carry out three legislative functions, namely the formation of qanuns, budget preparation, and supervision.
“It should be noted that the Qanun initiated by the Aceh DPR must make public services a top priority, open as many job opportunities as possible, and create a good investment climate so that community prosperity is created,” he said.
The budget function, as an extension of the community, is expected to prioritize the interests of the community in every budget plan, so that the allocation of funds truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the people. Meanwhile, supervision refers to the periodic and proportional supervision mechanism, both for the Aceh Government’s Accountability Report (LKPJ) and regional policies in general.
Tito also reminded that the synergy and collaboration of collective work between the DPRA and the Governor of Aceh must be directed positively to provide a quick response to solving people’s problems at the local and regional levels, and support the success of the national priority agenda.
Especially, in the near future, the 2024 simultaneous regional elections will be held, this is the right time as a momentum to synchronize the work plans of the central and regional governments.
“Hopefully, members of the council can maximize their role in overseeing the 2024 regional elections, both during the preparation stages until the inauguration of the elected regional head can run according to laws and regulations,” said Tito Karnavian. [AR]
