THE REPORTER | Three suspected perpetrators of Rohingya ethnic immigrant smuggling were arrested by the Indonesian Police (Polres) of South Aceh
South Aceh Police Chief AKBP Mughi Prasetyo Habrianto in South Aceh, said that the three were arrested at the Sibande Traffic Post, West Pakpak, North Sumatra Province, Friday (18/10/2024) at 17.00 WIB.
“The arrests were made by the police on the border of Aceh and North Sumatra after conducting a raid related to information that the suspected perpetrators of Rohingya smuggling in the waters of Labuhan Haji, South Aceh Regency, had fled,” said the Police Chief, Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The arrests of the suspected perpetrators began with information that three people were related to the presence of Rohingya ethnic immigrants on a motorboat in the waters of Labuhan Haji, fleeing towards Subulussalam City.
Receiving this information, the Resmob Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Aceh Police immediately moved to comb the Subulussalam highway. The team also coordinated with the Subulussalam Police and personnel from the Sibande Traffic Post, West Pakpak Police, North Sumatra Police.
Furthermore, the Subulussalam Police Criminal Investigation Unit’s Mobile Detective Team together with personnel from the Sibande Traffic Post conducted a raid by stopping every passing vehicle.
“The team found three people suspected of being related to the Rohingya immigrants riding in a goods vehicle. The three were immediately secured and taken to the Subulussalam Police,” said the Police Chief.
The three suspected perpetrators have the initials F (35), a resident of East Labuhan Haji, South Aceh Regency. Then, A (33), a resident of Tangan-tangan, Southwest Aceh Regency, and I (32), a resident of West Labuhan Haji, South Aceh Regency.
F played a role in waiting for the arrival of Rohingya ethnic immigrants on the shore of Lhong Beurawe Village, West Labuhan Haji District, South Aceh Regency. Meanwhile, A and I played a role in buying a motorboat worth IDR 600 million.
The Opsnal Team of the South Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit picked up the three at the Subulussalam Police. The evidence that was secured was three mobile phones and one unit of goods car with police number BL 8136 CC.[AR]
