THE REPORTER | Two students from Aceh studying in Lebanon were successfully evacuated by the Indonesian government after the conflict with Israel.
Coordinator of the Aceh Social Service, Fajri Mursyidan, said that three students had been facilitated to return to their respective hometowns. One student from Southeast Aceh was repatriated on Wednesday (9/10/2024)
“Then two more people from Bener Meriah and Southwest Aceh,” said Fajri, Sunday (13/10/2024).
These students were previously successfully evacuated by the Indonesian government from Lebanon, along with other Indonesian citizens (WNI) amidst the onslaught of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The Acehnese students are Muhammad Alhafidz Luthfi from Southeast Aceh who arrived last Wednesday, as well as Zainal Abidin from Bener Meriah and Wahyu Hidayatullah from Southwest Aceh who arrived today via Sultan Iskandar Muda (SIM) International Airport, Aceh Besar.
“For the time being, we have no information whether there are still our students there. If there are still more repatriations, we are ready to facilitate them,” he said.
The Indonesian government has appealed to all Indonesian citizens in Lebanon to immediately return to their homeland, and return to Lebanon after it is truly safe and conducive to continue their education or work.
A student from Aceh in Lebanon, Zainal Abidin, said that the current conditions in Lebanon are no longer safe.
Jewish soldiers attack areas of Lebanon every day, not only the border areas but also increasingly expanding to city areas such as Dahieh which is close to Beirut.
“And now (the attacks, ed.) have spread and spread to other areas,” said the Global University student.
“Alhamdulillah, I am happy to be able to return home, because this can also calm my family, teachers and friends. Later, when conditions are safe, we will return to continue our education,” he said.[AR]
